Terraced houses and allotments make the picture here. Neuengroden is a quiet residential quarter of about two hundred and ten hectares, and the Rüstringer Stadtpark lies immediately west with a pond, a boathouse restaurant and the Wilhelmshaven war cemetery. Industry is on the other side.
The oil harbour and part of the naval arsenal fill the Heppenser Groden east of the Friesendamm. Wilhelmshaven proper keeps the hotels.

What are the main landmarks in Neuengroden?
The Thomaskirche stands at the centre of the quarter. It belongs to the larger Protestant congregation, and both congregations here run a kindergarten. St Michael is no longer a church.
The Catholic filial church was deconsecrated in 2013 and has since been used by the Malteser relief service, having belonged to the St Willehad parish in the city. A school closed in 2009. The Grundschule Neuengroden had been built in 1900 and shut at the start of that school year, and the cemetery on the Friedensstraße also belongs to the district.
What is the history of Neuengroden?
A dike made this ground. The Neuengroden dike of 1520 won the land that the district now stands on, and the Freiligrathstraße runs roughly along the line the old dike took. The street divides the quarter in two.
West of it a provisional settlement went up at the start of the Second World War, since modernised from the ground up, and east of it stand mostly terraced and single-family houses. Allotments fill the gaps. Garden associations account for much of the green in Neuengroden, and a new area called the Erich-Kästner-Ring is going up with thirty-one houses on the ground of the old Frisia sports club at the Triftweg.
Where is Neuengroden?
Neuengroden lies in the north-east of Wilhelmshaven with Altengroden to the north-west, Rüstersiel to the north-east, the Rüstringer Stadtpark to the west and Heppens to the south, and the Heppenser Groden beyond the Friesendamm.
