The Klinikum Wilhelmshaven stands at the northern end of Aldenburg on the Friedrich-Paffrath-Straße, which is what brings most people to this side of the city. The Kurt-Schumacher-Straße, Am Wiesenhof and the Schaarreihe close the other sides. A housing area is going up on the Elsa-Brandström-Straße north of the cemetery.

What are the main landmarks in Aldenburg?
Fort Schaar gives one of the quarters its name. The Klinikum Wilhelmshaven opened on the Friedrich-Paffrath-Straße in 1967 as the Reinhard-Nieter-Krankenhaus and has been a teaching hospital for Göttingen since 1976. The Gastwirtschaft Weltfrieden anchored the villa colony.
What is the history of Aldenburg?
Ibo Koch, the Gemeindebaumeister, bought large lands from the Gemeinde Accum early in the nineteenth century, at the great bend of the old Maade north of the Wurtensiedlung Schaar. A villa colony rose on the ground from 1909, and seventy-two houses stood by the outbreak of the First World War. Aldenburg belonged to the Gemeinde Fedderwarden for a long time, then from 1933 to the new Gemeinde Kniphausen, and was ceded to Wilhelmshaven on 31 March 1938.
Wiesenhof followed in the 1960s.

Aldenburg lies in the west of Wilhelmshaven, bounded roughly by the Kurt-Schumacher-Straße, the Friedrich-Paffrath-Straße, Am Wiesenhof and the Schaarreihe. The old Maade bends through the ground north of Schaar. Burg Kniphausen, which gave the name, stands nearby.
