Where to stay in Neustadt/Nord
Where the beds are, and what that means for the visit.
Neustadt/Nord is made up of the Veedel of the Agnesviertel, the Belgisches Viertel, the Stadtgartenviertel, the Grüngürtel and the MediaPark. Köln-West is its only main-line station. The MediaPark, built on the old Gereon freight yard, holds a multiplex cinema, a hotel and two long blocks of flats among its offices. Green space comes from the Stadtgarten, laid out in 1828, and from Fort X, part of the old inner ring of forts, now laid out as gardens.

About Neustadt/Nord
What are the main landmarks in Neustadt/Nord?
In Neustadt/Nord, St. Agnes, Köln's second-largest church, stands on the Neusser Straße, which starts at the Ebertplatz. Jean Nouvel designed the Kölnturm in the MediaPark, at 148 metres the city's tallest high-rise, while the 266-metre Colonius television tower is its tallest building. At the end of the Theodor-Heuss-Ring, the Bastei juts out over the Rhine bank.
The Skulpturenpark Köln links the quarter to the Rhine. Michael and Eleonore Stoffel founded it in 1997.
What is the history of Neustadt/Nord?
Neustadt/Nord was a Gründerzeit quarter, heavily destroyed in the Second World War, and its streets mix many styles. Its Neusser Straße was once part of the Roman city's northern road. Between 1907 and 1911 the neo-Baroque Higher Regional Court went up on the Reichenspergerplatz, and in 1925 the Hansahochhaus was built as Europe's tallest high-rise.
After the war Neu St. Alban rose in the Stadtgarten in 1958 from rubble bricks. Gottfried Böhm designed St. Gertrud in 1965.
Where is Neustadt/Nord?
Neustadt/Nord runs from the Ringe out to the Innere Kanalstraße, which divides it from Ehrenfeld, Nippes and Riehl. The Aachener Straße divides it from Neustadt/Süd.
