Almost every line of Köln's Stadtbahn serves Neustadt/Süd, and Köln Süd station lies near the Barbarossaplatz. It is the quarter's only main-line station. For evenings out, the Südstadt around the Chlodwigplatz has many pubs and restaurants, and the Kwartier Latäng along the Zülpicher Straße adds bars, the MTC concert club and the Off Broadway cinema.
Restaurants around the Aachener Straße run a little more upmarket. Public underground car parks lie only along the Aachener Straße and the Ringe, and many street spaces are reserved at night for local permit holders.

About Neustadt/Süd
What are the main landmarks in Neustadt/Süd?
In Neustadt/Süd, St. Paul near the Sachsenring, finished in 1908, is the best preserved of the churches the quarter was built with. Christi Auferstehung, the Old Catholic church, kept its tower at the star of the Roonstraße, Moltkestraße and Jülicher Straße. Its nave now holds offices and flats.
On the Roonstraße, the synagogue is the only one of Köln's synagogues that was rebuilt. The Volksgarten on the Vorgebirgstraße is one of the city's oldest parks, and the Aachener Weiher, a pond of the 1920s, lies in the green belt by the Museum für Ostasiatische Kunst.
What is the history of Neustadt/Süd?
The Neustadt was laid out to plans by Josef Stübben after the medieval city wall came down from 1880, with the boulevard of the Ringe built just outside its line. Squares were set where the old roads out of the city crossed it, among them the Chlodwigplatz, the Zülpicher Platz and the Rudolfplatz. Most of the Neustadt stood by about 1910.
It was built mainly for well-off households. The Second World War destroyed much of it, the opera house on the Rudolfplatz among it. The hill south of the Aachener Weiher was heaped from the rubble of the bombed city.

Neustadt/Süd runs from the Ringe out to the Innerer Grüngürtel and the railway to the Südbrücke. The Aachener Straße divides it from Neustadt/Nord.
