What is the history of Hatzfeld?
Hatzfeld grew out of one of Barmen's medieval founding farms: an estate called Hirutfelde appears in the Werden rent roll of 1070, and the name, Hertzfeld by 1466, means deer field. It stayed thinly settled for centuries. Barmen then planned its northern extension here: the first firms came in 1909, the town built the Hatzfeld housing estate in 1911-1912, and the Lotte-Neumann-Siedlung followed after 1935.
