What are the main landmarks in Enghave?

Enghave Kirke takes the district's name. The Brandmuseet is a museum of fire fighting, and sport has its ground at Bavnehøj Idrætsanlæg. The Carlsberg Museum lies just beyond, toward the Carlsberg area that bounds the district to the north.

What is the history of Enghave?

Kongens Enghave, the king's meadow, is first mentioned in 1632, when its hay fed the royal stables at Copenhagen Castle. In 1795 the old Enghavevej was built from Vesterbrogade to Gammel Køge Landevej and the land divided into 22 estates. Of its early country houses, only Frederiksholm survives.

Since the turn of the millennium the harbour-front areas of Sluseholmen and Teglholmen have been rebuilt as new residential neighbourhoods, while the older central streets have kept their working-class character.

Where is Enghave?

Kongens Enghave covers 4.46 square kilometres. The Carlsberg area bounds it to the north, Vesterbro to the north-east and Valby to the west, while Copenhagen Harbour to the east and south separates it from Amager Vest. It holds large parks such as Valbyparken and Sydhavnstippen, allotment gardens and part of Vestre Kirkegård, the city's largest cemetery.
