It lies between Nervión and the old centre. La Buhaira sits on that seam and adjoins the barrio of San Bernardo and the Huerta del Pilar, so it is walkable to both the historic quarter and the modern business one. Housing is blocks with businesses beneath.
The ground floors hold restaurants and bars, which is the character of the streets here. The garden is the reason to walk in.

What are the main landmarks in La Buhaira?
An Almohad pleasure garden survives in outline. The palace and gardens of the Buhaira are what the barrio is named for, and the garden beside their remains is open ground now. A basilica left only its bases.
The column bases of a basilica by the architect Aníbal González are preserved here, which is all that stands of that project. A bullring gate survives too. One of the entrance gates to the old plaza de toros of La Monumental is kept nearby.
What is the history of La Buhaira?
A caliph ordered the gardens. In the second half of the 12th century, under the Almohads, the caliph Abu Yacub Yusuf had a pleasure palace and gardens laid out as an almunia, and the month is recorded as October 1171, safar of the year 567 in the Hijri calendar. Their site was outside the walls.
The almunia went up beyond the puerta de Yahwar of Seville, on ground the people of the time knew as Bocado de Faraón, and its alignment took in the orchards called after Ibn Maslama. Modern building came much later. Aníbal González designed a basilica here of which only the column bases survive, and the old plaza de toros of La Monumental left one of its entrance gates nearby.
Blocks of flats fill the rest. The barrio now sits between Nervión and the historic centre with business premises on the ground floors, and the garden by the palace remains is what carries the older ground through.
