About el Clot
What are the main landmarks in el Clot?
Much of the barri is the Parc del Clot. It stands on the site of RENFE's railway machinery works, whose remains still show, and the Clot de la Mel gardens in the east take up the space of an Eixample block. The old Torre de Sant Joan del Clot de la Mel is now a public school, the Escola Casas.
Ca la Vila, the Mercat del Clot, the Encants Vells, and the Torre del Fang are among its sights.
What is the history of el Clot?
El Clot is recorded in 1208. That year King Peter the Catholic granted the Hospitallers the tower of the Clot de la Mel and the Soler mill, both beside the Rec Comtal. Its market gardens and mills fed Barcelona.
In the 19th century flour mills, textile works, tanneries, and brickworks moved in, and by the end of the century it was a large industrial and working-class settlement, part of the former municipality of Sant Martí.

El Clot is bounded by the Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, the Plaça de les Glòries Catalanes, and the streets Dos de Maig, Aragó, Avinguda Meridiana, Navas de Tolosa, Mallorca, and Espronceda. Its old core runs along Carrer del Clot, Carrer Escultors Claperós, and Carrer de la Verneda. Taller buildings rise towards the Meridiana and the Gran Via.
Neighbours have long asked for one barri with El Camp de l'Arpa del Clot, set apart in 2006.
