About Les Corts
What are the main landmarks in Les Corts?
Camp Nou, FC Barcelona's ground, is the largest stadium in Europe. The club's old Camp de les Corts became a public park. In the Barri Vell stand the town hall, the church of Santa Maria del Remei, the Can Rosés library, and the Can Deu civic centre.
Can Batllori's old farm is now gardens. The name of Can Sol de Baix, after the iron sun at its gate, returned in 1965 with the Plaça del Sol de Baix.
What is the history of Les Corts?
The name comes from the Latin cohortes, rural houses, after the Roman villas and farmhouses that once stood here. Les Corts became the municipality of Les Corts de Sarrià in 1836. At Can Batllori, Iberian and Roman finds came to light, among them grain pits, a caldarium, and a necropolis, and from 1879 the Castells factory, and later its workers' cottages, brought industry to the Camp de la Creu.
The district took its present shape in 1984.
Where is Les Corts?
Les Corts lies in the western part of Barcelona. At 6.02 square kilometres it is the city's third smallest district. It borders Sarrià-Sant Gervasi, the Eixample, and Sants-Montjuïc, and the towns of L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, Esplugues de Llobregat, and Sant Just Desvern.
Its centre is a strip of squares, Can Rosés, Concòrdia, and Comas, between the Travessera de les Corts and Carrer de Deu i Mata.
