The neighbourhood sits inside the Horta-Guinardó district, where Torre dels Pardals and the Ermita de la Mare de Déu de Fàtima stand among ordinary blocks of flats.
Because it is a lived-in neighbourhood, el Guinardó keeps its streets given over to homes and local trade, with the rest of Barcelona a short ride away by public transit.

The list runs longer than the neighbourhood's plain reputation. Torre dels Pardals, Torre del Suro and Torre Maria are the towers on it, and the Convent de Sant Joaquim dels Mínims and the Ermita de la Mare de Déu de Fàtima carry the religious side. Houses account for much of the rest, Casa Bech and Casa Josep Barnolas among them.
Not all of it is built. The Zona arqueològica de la Sagrera is an archaeological site rather than a building, and the Escultura Les nostres arrels is a sculpture on the same municipal list.

Older names survive: the Zona arqueològica de la Sagrera, the Antic Institut Ravetllat-Pla and Sant Martí del Clot.
