What is the history of Fort Pienc?
Fort Pienc takes its name from Fort Pius, a military fortification that stood here until the nineteenth century. The garrison shaped the ground. When the walls came down, the land folded into Barcelona's expanding grid, and civic buildings replaced the old defences over time.
The Arc de Triomf later rose at the head of the Passeig de Lluís Companys as a gateway, while La Monumental brought a great arena to the neighbourhood. The fort is gone. Its name endures.
