About Pedralbes
What are the main landmarks in Pedralbes?
The Monastery of Pedralbes, a model of Catalan Gothic, has a two-storey cloister of the 14th and 15th centuries and a single-nave church attributed to Berenguer de Montagut. Ferrer Bassa painted its chapel of Sant Miquel in 1346. The founder's double tomb is there too.
In the 1940s and 1950s the Pedralbes circuit staged car and motorcycle races in the barri.
What is the history of Pedralbes?
Queen Elisenda de Montcada founded the monastery of Poor Clares in 1326, and in 1367 it was entrusted to the Consell de Cent. The area was built up from the 1940s. In 1992 and 1993 parts of the convent were refitted to show old master paintings lent by the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum.
When visitors fell and the MNAC's refit was done, the paintings moved there.
Where is Pedralbes?
Pedralbes belongs to the Les Corts district. Before the city's division of 1984 it was part of Sarrià and of the former municipality of Sant Vicenç de Sarrià, and the monastery stands in the west of Barcelona on that land. Large mansions in gardens line the Avinguda de Pearson.
