About Navas
What are the main landmarks in Navas?
The plaça d'Islàndia in Navas is mostly taken up by a fountain by Andreu Arriola and Carme Fiol, a triangular pond 30 metres long. Five metal structures recall Icelandic waterfalls. A jet that imitates a geyser shoots up to 18 metres at irregular intervals.
Mayor Pasqual Maragall and President Vigdís Finnbogadóttir of Iceland opened the plaça on 1 April 1995. On the plaça de Ferran Reyes stands the parish church of Sant Joan Bosco, built in 1977, with a pyramid form and a blue metal facade.
What is the history of Navas?
The ground of Navas was farmland of the town of Sant Martí, annexed by Barcelona in 1897, watered by the Rec Comtal that now runs under the carrer de Bofarull. Its few buildings were masies. Only the Torre de Fang still stands.
In 1944 the governor Antonio Correa Veglison opened the Urbanización Meridiana, 406 low garden-city houses by Marià Romaní, known since as the Casas del Gobernador. Wider building followed in the 1950s, when the railway on the line of the Avinguda Meridiana was put underground. Navas became an official barri on 22 December 2006.

Navas is bounded by the carrers Navas de Tolosa, Sant Antoni Maria Claret, Olesa, Felip II, Clot and Mallorca and the passeig de Maragall. The Avinguda Meridiana cuts it diagonally in two.
