About Sant Gervasi - Galvany

Where to stay in Sant Gervasi - Galvany
Each area has its own feel; here's who each one suits.
Sant Gervasi - Galvany sits inside Barcelona. The district joins the two older cores of Sant Gervasi and Galvany, a stretch of streets and homes for which little visitor detail is set down. It stays low-key.
Use it as a plain, everyday base within Barcelona, near enough to reach the centre and the sights.
About Sant Gervasi - Galvany
What are the main landmarks in Sant Gervasi - Galvany?
The heritage list here runs long. Casa Sagnier, Casa Marfà and the Palau del Marquès d'Alella stand among the catalogued houses of the quarter, alongside Vil·la Florida and Casa Muley Afid. Mare de Déu de la Bonanova and the Església de Sant Ramon de Penyafort carry church names here.
Smaller collections fill the gaps: the Joan Maragall Archive and the Museum of the History of Hairdressing both sit in the quarters of Sant Gervasi and Galvany. The streets carry homes.
What is the history of Sant Gervasi - Galvany?
Sant Gervasi - Galvany carries the names of two older quarters, Sant Gervasi and Galvany, now part of Barcelona. The first half of the name refers to Sant Gervasi de Cassoles, once a municipality in its own right. Camp d'en Galvany was begun in 1866 by its owner, Josep Galvany Castelló, and the Galvany name spread once the market Galvany went up between the streets Santaló, Calaf, Amigó and Madrazo.
The names endure. A plaque on the Santaló street facade recalls the gift of the land for the market to the municipality. Its story runs with the wider growth of Barcelona.
Where is Sant Gervasi - Galvany?
