Sants is a lively residential barri, well connected with the centre and beyond, with plenty of small shops and service businesses. Some hotels stand near Barcelona Sants, the city's main railway station. The Carretera de Sants, made up of the carrer de Sants and the Creu Coberta in Hostafrancs, is one of Barcelona's largest shopping streets.

About Sants
What are the main landmarks in Sants?
The Parc de l'Espanya Industrial took over the old Vapor Nou textile mill in 1985. Vapor Vell became a library and school in 2001. In 2016 the Jardins de la Rambla de Sants opened over the covered train and metro tracks, reaching the plaça de Ramon Torres García near Can Vies.
Neighbourhood life gathers in the plaça de Sants, the plaça del Centre, the plaça d'Osca, and the plaça de la Farga.
What is the history of Sants?
Sants is recorded in 991, as villa de Sanctos, and its church of Santa Maria de Sants, cited in 780, was a parish of its own by 1130. The Carretera de Sants, begun in 1764, drove trade and building. Between 1850 and the annexation its people multiplied fivefold.
The union with Barcelona became final on 20 April 1897, and in 1918 the workers' Congrés de Sants met at the Ateneu Racionalista Obrer.
