Montilivi is registered as an entitat de població of Girona and as one of four sectors in the barri of Sud, alongside Palau, l'Avellaneda, and la Creueta. Montilivi Stadium opened on 14 August 1970. The Universitat de Girona took its present form in 1991, gathered out of teaching centres whose line runs back to the Estudi General that Alfons el Magnànim granted the city in 1446.
