What are the main landmarks in Las Águilas?

Public art marks the barrio's streets. The Antorcha, a sculpture, the Topografía funcional and a wayside cross on the calle General Romero Basart all stand in Las Águilas, along with statues of Miguel Hernández and Valle-Inclán and a monument to firefighters. Its public spaces include the fountain of the parque de las Cruces and the plaza del Olivo.

Close by lies the Iglesia de San Pedro, and the Hermitage of Santa María la Antigua lies toward Vista Alegre.

What is the history of Las Águilas?

Farms and livestock holdings filled this ground before the barrio, and from the 1930s to the early 1960s the Huerta el Polvorín covered much of it. In the late 1950s the Franco regime's Sindicato Nacional de la Vivienda began laying out the streets. The first homes came in the 1960s.

Young married couples bought them. Metro line 5 linked the area to the rest of the city from the start, and in the late 1960s the farms were bought up for sports centres, shops and leisure grounds.
