What are the main landmarks in Legazpi?
The Madrid Planetarium and the Miradores parque Enrique Tierno Galván, a set of viewpoints, stand in Legazpi. Close by lies the Vagón-plataforma de tren, a monument. Toward Delicias stands the Biblioteca Joaquín Leguina building, and toward Almendrales the iglesia parroquial de Nuestra Señora de la Fuencisla and the Columnas toscanas Pradolongo, a set of columns.
What is the history of Legazpi?
Until the 19th century this was farmland crossed by the Camino de Vicálvaro, now the calle de Méndez Álvaro. Railways from 1860, and the Delicias station built next door in 1880, filled it with factories and warehouses, and the central fruit and vegetable market opened here in 1935. Delicias closed and industry moved out in the 1970s.
The barrio then turned residential, and its great park opened in 1986 on the old Cerro de la Plata.
Where is Legazpi?
Legazpi has a trapezoid shape. It sits in the south-east of the district, with the Manzanares river and the M-30 along its southern edge, and covers about 1.39 km².
