About Pinar del Rey
What are the main landmarks in Pinar del Rey?
Pinar del Rey holds the casco antiguo of Hortaleza, the old core of the district, on the north side of the Gran Vía de Hortaleza. Its namesake pine wood survives only as a remnant. Once one of the densest and best-known woods around Madrid, it is much reduced from its former extent.
What is the history of Pinar del Rey?
Early in the 20th century nobles set up their country houses in Pinar del Rey. It also saw avant-garde urban development, as one of the places where some of the projects promoted by Arturo Soria were put in motion. From 2008 to 2018 its population fell by a tenth.
Some fifty-two thousand people lived here in 2018.
