The cove sets the shape. Hotels take the water's edge at Cala Estància, near enough that a guest can swim in the morning and walk to Palma Aquarium in the afternoon without moving the car. Inland runs quieter.
If you want the rest of Palma, the seafront road carries you along the bay, while a bed nearer Son Oms Sanctuary trades the shore for space.

Son Oms Sanctuary is the long thread. The site lies inland from the cove and carries a name that predates the seafront blocks along Cala Estància, evidence that this corner of Palma was in use long before any aquarium was built on it. The shore came later.
Palma Aquarium and the run of hotels facing Illot Galera belong to the newer city, laid out for a coast that people travel to for the water.
