Where to stay in Ciutat Jardi

How the choice of base plays out on the ground.

Ciutat Jardí is a middle-class barrio and unusually well connected for its size. The avenida Blasco Ibáñez runs through it with the avenida Doctor Manuel Candela alongside, and the metro stops at Amistat and Ayora sit on the southern boundary. Students fill it in term.

The Tarongers campus of the Universitat de València and the Campus de Vera of the Universitat Politècnica both stand close by.

About Ciutat Jardi

What are the main landmarks in Ciutat Jardi?

The single-family houses on the calle José de Orgá are what survives of the garden-city idea, built in the nineteen-thirties and quite unlike the open blocks around them. Two squares give the barrio its social life. The plaza del Cedro and the plaza de Honduras are both popular with the young, and the Colegio Público Explorador Andrés serves the neighbourhood's own children.

What is the history of Ciutat Jardi?

The name records a plan that failed. Valencia intended to turn the avenida Blasco Ibáñez and the ground around it into a garden city, and the attempt came to nothing, leaving the barrio with the name and little of the form. What went up instead was mostly open-plan building.

The houses on the calle José de Orgá, put up in the nineteen-thirties, are the exception that shows what was meant.

Where is Ciutat Jardi?

Ciutat Jardí lies east of the centre of Valencia within the Algirós district, hemmed in by neighbours on every side, La Carrasca to the north, L'Illa Perduda east, Ayora and Albors south, Amistat and La Bega Baixa west. The calles Músico Ginés and Santos Justo y Pastor run through the middle. It is a compact barrio.
