Beach in Norway

Norwegian beach days belong to the Sørlandet, the mild south coast where Kristiansand lays its grid of streets between harbour and beach. The west coast plays rougher. Farsund's flat Lista farmland runs out to an exposed shore, Sola and Klepp face the open North Sea, and around Sandefjord and Larvik the Oslofjord coast folds small bays between headlands and skerries.

What makes a beach destination worth the trip?

Water quality and shelter come first: a swimmable, clean shore beats a long but exposed one. After that it is the town — places that live year-round keep their restaurants and transport when the season ends, which is what separates a beach resort from a beach with a car park.
