The hill filled with housing. As Kuopio spread westward across the lakeland in the later twentieth century, the wooded slope above the city took on apartment blocks and streets, and Neulamäki grew into a residential district of eastern Finland. The parish followed the people.
Neulamäen kirkko rose to serve the new quarter, the lookout of Neulamäen näkötorni came to crown the ridge, and over the years the hillside settled into a calm corner of Kuopio above the older town centre.
