Where to stay in Särkiniemi
The right area depends on your trip. Here's who each one suits — pick the place, then the hotel.
Särkiniemi is residential. The quarter sits on the south-western side of Kuopio, suburban ground rather than hotel ground, so most visitors base themselves in the city centre and come out here only with reason. You get lakeland quiet in this corner.
The apartment streets run on toward Neulamäki to the west, and the calm reach of Kuopio keeps Särkiniemi a settled residential pocket of eastern Finland, well back from the busier core.
About Särkiniemi
What are the main landmarks in Särkiniemi?
This is a quiet quarter. Särkiniemi carries no monuments of its own, and its bearings come instead from the districts around it and the city it belongs to, with Neulamäki along the western edge and the rest of Kuopio reaching off toward the centre. The streets are its own.
Houses and apartment blocks hold the south-western ground here, a settled residential pocket of eastern Finland that leaves the landmarks to the wider lakeland city.
What is the history of Särkiniemi?
The quarter grew outward. As Kuopio spread south-westward across the lakeland in the later twentieth century, the woods and slopes on this side of the city filled with housing and Särkiniemi took shape as a suburban district of eastern Finland. The growth came in steadily.
New apartment streets joined the older houses, the neighbouring quarter of Neulamäki rose along the same western reach, and over the years Särkiniemi settled into a calm residential corner of Kuopio, well back from the older centre near Niirala that built the original town.
Where is Särkiniemi?

The quarter spreads across the lakeland fringe of the city, a residential reach of houses and apartment streets set back from the centre, with the district of Neulamäki on its western side and the wider built-up area of Kuopio carrying on toward the heart of this part of eastern Finland.
