What are the main landmarks in Mankkaa?
Mankkaa keeps no monuments. It is a residential district of eastern Espoo, defined by gardens, schools, and quiet through-roads rather than churches or halls. The draws lie beyond its edges: the planned centre of Tapiola to the south-east, the station and shopping of Leppävaara to the north-east, the small neighbour of Henttaa just over the western boundary, and the wooded slopes that run up toward Kilo and Karakallio in the north.
What Mankkaa offers is the everyday calm of an Espoo suburb. Trees line the streets, and the noise of the city stays at arm's length.
What is the history of Mankkaa?
Mankkaa was farmland first. The district takes its name from old manor and meadow ground east of the early Espoo settlements, and it stayed rural while Tapiola rose nearby as a planned garden town after the war. Housing spread across Mankkaa through the later twentieth century, filling the slopes with detached homes and terraces.
Growth came house by house. As Leppävaara and Tapiola drew commuters and rail, Mankkaa settled into the quiet residential belt that links the older centres of Espoo.
