Where to stay in Puistola

The right area depends on your trip. Here's who each one suits — pick the place, then the hotel.

Puistola is a low-rise residential suburb in north-eastern Helsinki, a district of wooden houses and garden plots strung along the main railway rather than a hotel quarter. Beds are scarce here. The area sits a short ride down the line from Malmi and just south of Tikkurila over the border in Vantaa, which gives it an easy commuter footing close to the Puistolan kirkko.

Most travellers sleep in central Helsinki and ride the train out, while Puistola suits those wanting a quiet railside base in this corner of southern Finland near Tapanila.

About Puistola

What are the main landmarks in Puistola?

The Puistolan kirkko is the chief landmark of Puistola, a parish church anchoring this north-eastern district of Helsinki. It draws the suburb together. Close by toward the neighbouring quarter of Tapanila stands the Tapanilan kirkko, the older church the two railside districts have long shared.

Wooden streets and garden plots make the rest of the scene, the modest built fabric of a railway garden suburb in this corner of southern Finland between Malmi and Tikkurila.

What is the history of Puistola?

Puistola grew up as a garden suburb beside the main railway on the north-eastern edge of Helsinki in southern Finland. The line made the place. When the track was laid the fields west of it were built up and named Tapulikaupunki, and the wooden-house quarter east of the rails took shape as Puistola, a commuter settlement between Malmi to the south and Tikkurila in Vantaa to the north.

The Puistolan kirkko later rose to serve the parish, and the suburb kept its low, green character beside its older neighbour Tapanila.

Where is Puistola?

Puistola lies along the main railway in north-eastern Helsinki in southern Finland, about two kilometres south of Tikkurila in Vantaa and six kilometres north of Malmi.
