About Vuosaari
What are the main landmarks in Vuosaari?
Vuosaari keeps its markers modest. The Vuosaaren kirkko anchors the district, a modern Lutheran church serving the neighbourhood under the trees. Nearby stands the small Katukappeli, a street chapel tucked into the everyday fabric of the quarter rather than set apart from it.
The shore and its beaches are the real draw. Woodland and water frame both ends of the district.
What is the history of Vuosaari?
Vuosaari joined the city late. Long a separate stretch of coast and island on the eastern fringe by the Gulf of Finland, it was annexed into Helsinki in the twentieth century and built up steadily from village and summer-cottage land into a full residential district. The metro reached it last, extending the eastern line out to the sea through Rastila and pulling the open coast firmly into the daily city.
Vuosaaren kirkko followed the growth. The line drew the district outward.
Where is Vuosaari?
On the eastern coast of Helsinki, Vuosaari is the city's largest district by area, a seaside spread of shore, woodland, and bays facing the Gulf of Finland.
