Where to stay in Suutarila

The right area depends on your trip. Here's who each one suits — pick the place, then the hotel.

Suutarila is a quiet residential corner of Helsinki with few beds of its own. Most visitors look across the line. The neighbouring Tikkurila, just over the Vantaa border, gathers the hotels around its station and the science centre of Tiedekeskus Heureka, an easy base near the airport and the eastern rail line back into central Helsinki.

Who it suits: you want a calm suburban edge by the Keravanjoki, with Heureka and the old town of Tikkurila a short ride away rather than a city-centre room.

About Suutarila

What are the main landmarks in Suutarila?

The great draws sit just across the Vantaa line. Tiedekeskus Heureka is the closest. The national science centre stands by the old town of Tikkurila, where the heritage station building of Tikkurilan vanha asemarakennus and the church of Tikkurilan kirkko anchor the historic core, and the regional collection of Vantaan kaupunginmuseo keeps the local record.

The manor house of Villa Söderbo lies near the Keravanjoki. These sights ring Suutarila at the city edge.

What is the history of Suutarila?

Suutarila grew from rural ground on the north-eastern fringe of Helsinki, near the Keravanjoki and the border with Vantaa. Farms and forest came first. As the capital spread outward along the railway through the twentieth century, the wooded land between Helsinki and the Vantaa boundary filled with houses, and the subdistrict took its place among the eastern suburbs beside Suurmetsä and Tapaninkylä.

The river still marks its quiet edge.

Where is Suutarila?

Suutarila sits in north-eastern Helsinki, on the city's edge. The Keravanjoki runs close by. The subdistrict lies near the boundary between Helsinki and Vantaa, a low and wooded corner of the capital reached from the rail line that threads the eastern suburbs toward the neighbouring city.

Suurmetsä and Tapaninkylä lie nearby. Across the line stand the old town of Tikkurila and its science centre.
