What are the main landmarks in Saint-Ideuc?

Église Saint-Ideuc has been an inscribed monument historique since 1970, and its entrance portal, at the middle of Saint-Ideuc, is cut with the date 1721. Granite rubble walls carry a Latin-cross plan, a polygonal chancel, and a bell tower set to one side. The churchyard emptied in 1885.

Its graves went to the Paramé cemetery, and the open ground before the door has been Place de l'Église ever since, with Rue de Saint-Ideuc passing on its way inland.

What is the history of Saint-Ideuc?

Saint-Ideuc traces its parish to saint Samson in the sixth century, and its name to the Welsh saint Ildut. That parish answered to the diocese of Dol though enclosed within the diocese of Saint-Malo, and fiefs such as Cour Bague and Cour Galland divided its ground. It became a commune in 1790 and lost that standing in 1792, when the department attached it to Paramé.

A royal ordinance restored it in 1826. Fighting for the liberation of Saint-Malo in August 1944 brought down the church's original bell tower, and the 1967 merger of Paramé, Saint-Malo, and Saint-Servan made Saint-Ideuc part of the city.

Saint-Ideuc lies on the low plateau of north-east Saint-Malo, with Paramé to the south-west, Rothéneuf to the north, and Saint-Coulomb across the eastern boundary.
