What are the main landmarks in Angisa?
Angisa's one marked feature is a road. The Batumi-Akhaltsikhe road, Georgia's Sh 1, begins in the quarter and runs 159 km inland, climbing through Adjara to cross the Goderdzi Pass on the Arsiani Range. Built monuments are absent; the quarter has no church, tower, or ruin of its own.
Batumi International Airport lies south of it, by Adlia at the river's mouth, and the Black Sea takes the western edge of the plain.
What is the history of Angisa?
Angisa spent most of its life as a village outside Batumi. It sat in the Kakhaberi community, on the plain between the Batumi centre and the Chorokhi. Abkhaz muhajirs who had left Abkhazia for the Ottoman Empire settled in the village during the second half of the 19th century, one of several such arrivals in Khelvachauri Municipality.
Revaz Diasamidze, the historian and translator, was born there on 16 April 1948 and later sat in the Parliament of Georgia. The city line reached it in 2009. Kakhaberi, Adlia, and Mejinistsqali came in with it.
