Stanley draws day visitors from across Hong Kong Island, so a room in the town itself buys early mornings and quiet evenings on a shoreline that empties once the buses have gone. Repulse Bay lies west and Shek O east, both an easy road run away when one stretch of coast is not enough.
The shoreline sets the pace. Chung Hom Kok and Tai Tam sit adjacent, each a short run from the town.

Stanley Sports Centre is the town's public recreation complex, serving the peninsula and the wider Southern District around it. The coast supplies the rest. Repulse Bay sits west of the town and Shek O east of it, so a single day here can take in three separate shorelines without a long journey.
Chek Chue, the town's other name, belongs to the same shore.

Two names attach to this shore. Stanley and Chek Chue both belong to the same coastal town, and the peninsula beneath it is eponymous, named for the settlement rather than the other way round. Both names remain in use.
