Two very different stays sit in the same name. Trowulan is the other choice.

Rolak Songo Museum sits off on its own. Mojokerto Regency wraps the city, and a room anywhere in it keeps the whole landmark list within a short drive, which is the practical answer for anyone travelling by car rather than on foot.
Many visitors skip the question altogether and stay in Surabaya, forty kilometres to the northeast, since Mojokerto belongs to the same metropolitan grouping as Gresik Regency, Sidoarjo Regency and Lamongan Regency. That adds forty kilometres to every morning. Sixteen square kilometres holds the city itself, so the choice is never between distant options, only between the monument side and the municipal one.

What is the history of Mojokerto?
Majapahit is the older name here, carried into the present by the Museum of Majapahit Information Centre and by the monument ground at Trowulan that the city has been attached to ever since. The city itself is much younger. Municipal status arrived only in 1918, a charter far younger than anything the Trowulan collections hold. Two administrations share the name.
Mojokerto City and Mojokerto Regency are separate units, and the city is the smaller of the pair by a wide margin, holding only the built-up core while the regency takes in the country around it.
