Durga Bhairavakonda carries a shrine of its own. The name itself has two forms, Vizianagaram and Vijayanagaram, both in use for the same city and both traceable to the estate that gave it the role of a capital in Andhra Pradesh. Administration replaced the estate in time, and the town became the headquarters of the Vizianagaram district, the role it fills within the state.
Visakhapatnam grew larger. The port city about 40 km off took the coastal trade and the scale, while the older seat kept its district and its name.
