What is the history of Begum Bazaar?
The market carries a woman's name. Humda Begum, wife of the Nizam Ali Khan known as Asaf Jah II, gifted the land to the merchants of Hyderabad for trade, and the quarter that grew on it took her title as Begum Bazaar. Brass and copper dealers settled the earliest lanes.
Spice and utensil trades followed. The rows have handled the city's wholesale supply through generations of the old bazaar economy.
