Choose your corner by whether you want the monument at dawn, the market crowds, or a quieter museum-side street.
About Hyderabad Old City
What are the main landmarks in Hyderabad Old City?
The Charminar is the sign of the district. Its four minarets rise over the crossroads of the old bazaars, and within a short walk stand the Salar Jung Museum, the Nizam Museum and the Telangana State Archaeology Museum, together holding one of India's densest runs of Deccan art and courtly relics. The Moazzam Jahi Market and the Mahboob Chowk Clock Tower mark the trading quarter, while the Khursheed Jah Devdi palace, the Diwan Devdi and the Goshamahal Baradari survive from the noble mansions of the old city.
Old gates remain too. The Dabirpura Gate still frames one edge of what was the walled town.
What is the history of Hyderabad Old City?
This is the founding ground of Hyderabad. The Charminar was laid out at the heart of a planned town, and the district grew as the seat of the Nizam's court, filling with noble mansions such as the Khursheed Jah Devdi palace, the Diwan Devdi and the Goshamahal Baradari. Old walls and gates like the Dabirpura Gate once ringed it.
Later civic building added the Telangana High Court building, the Nizamia Tibbi College and the poet's house known as the Golden Threshold, layering a public city over the courtly one.
Where is Hyderabad Old City?
The district covers the tight southern grid of Hyderabad around the Charminar, a compact tropical quarter of narrow bazaar lanes reaching out to the Dabirpura Gate and the trading edge at Moazzam Jahi Market.
