Uwajima Castle is the fixed point, and rooms taken around it reach Tensha-en, the Uwajima City Date Museum and the Uwajima City Historical Museum without any transport at all. Old Uwajima covers hardly any ground. That is the whole argument for staying central here, since a city of this size gives up little to a visitor who picks one base and walks from it.
Bull sumo changes that on its days. Uwajima was assembled in 2005 from more ground than the old town ever held, so a room in Uwajima can still sit a long way from Uwajima Castle. A shoreline room is the other choice.
Uwajima faces open ocean, and a room out along the water trades the museums for a working shoreline, which suits anyone here for the sea rather than for the Date name. Hozumi Bridge and Akamatsu amusement park belong to the wider municipality, which spreads well past the built-up centre it takes its name from. Neither needs an overnight.
A single base in Uwajima covers the castle, the grounds of Tensha-en, the Azechi Umetarō Memorial Museum and the shore, and the only real reason to move is an appetite for quieter nights than the centre offers.

An ancient fertility shrine predates all of it, and it is the one piece of the record that visitors still mention first. Bulls came into it too. Where is Uwajima?

Roads follow the coast in. Everything overland arrives along the coast of Shikoku, and Hozumi Bridge is one of the crossings that hold the municipality's scattered ground together, which matters in a city whose boundary reaches well past the streets around Uwajima Castle. The built-up centre stays tight.
Once a visitor is in Uwajima, the castle, Tensha-en and the museums need nothing more than a walk, and only Akamatsu amusement park and the outer coast ask for wheels.
