Where to stay in Heiwa
Where the beds are, and what that means for the visit.
Quiet is what this area sells. Heiwa lies on hilly ground about three kilometres south of Tenjin, with Konosuyama close by, and it developed as a still residential district with many schools. A cemetery fills much of one chome.
The Hirao municipal cemetery takes up most of the fourth chome in Minami ward, alongside the Heiwa-minami green space and the Konosuyama paths. Six special green conservation districts protect the slopes.
About Heiwa
What are the main landmarks in Heiwa?
An army firing range lay under this ground. The readjustment scheme kept the site for schools and parks rather than housing, which is why so much of Heiwa is public land. A cemetery was planned into it.
The Hirao municipal cemetery was laid out inside the district by the city plan, and it occupies most of the fourth chome. Green belts ring the hills. Konosuyama, Heiwa-minami, Heiwa-nishi, Heiwa-kita, Heiwa-higashi and Heiwa are all designated special green conservation districts, and the Konosuyama scenic district limits building, land forming and tree felling across the western parts of the first and second chome and all of the fourth.
What is the history of Heiwa?
Fukuoka's first land readjustment scheme made this district. The city began the Hirao district scheme in July 1953, its first as a municipality, and completed it in November 1964. An old firing range was the opportunity.
The site of the former army range was kept for primary and middle schools and for parks, so a high proportion of the ground went to public use. A cemetery went in by plan. The Hirao municipal cemetery was created inside the district under the same scheme, which is unusual ground to find inside a residential quarter.
The result is a quiet address. Heiwa reads as a still residential district with a great deal of public land, spread over a hundred and ten hectares between two wards.
Where is Heiwa?
Heiwa spreads over about a hundred and ten hectares across Chuo and Minami wards in Fukuoka, about three kilometres south of Tenjin, bordering Ozasa and Hirao to the north-north-west and Ichizaki, Oike, Terazuka and Nagaoka to the east and south.
