What are the main landmarks in Kashii-hama?

Four neighbourhood parks are spread across the chome. Kashii-hama South, West, North and East each serve one of them, with the central park in the third chome as well. A district plan governs part of it.

About twenty-nine hectares of the second and third chome are covered by rules on use and on where walls may stand, meant to add commerce and culture to the housing and to link the parks with the waterside. An expressway junction sits inside the district. The Fukuoka urban expressway Kashii line meets the Island City line here.

What is the history of Kashii-hama?

Fukuoka ran out of room to build. The city gained about thirty thousand people a year in the late 1940s and about twenty thousand a year in the 1950s, and land inside the built-up area could not meet the demand, so the sea had to be filled. Three estates came first. Toyohama was finished in February 1968, Shirohama in February 1969 and Fukuhama in December of the same year, and Kashii-hama followed them.

The licence came in September 1969. Work began with a ceremony that October, and the first zone was completed in November 1974. Three more zones followed.

The second was finished in January 1975, the third in January 1976 and the fourth in November of that year, making about ninety hectares of new ground in all.

Where is Kashii-hama?

Kashii-hama covers about ninety hectares in the middle of Higashi ward in Fukuoka, facing Hakata Bay to the north, with Chihaya to the east, the Shirohama estate to the south and the Kashii-hama wharf to the west.
