Not every neighbourhood fits every trip — here's what each one is good for.
Enoshima island and Shonandai are the two poles of a stay in Fujisawa, and almost every practical question about where to sleep comes down to which of them the day is built around. The island end is the busier one. Rooms near the Enoshima Aquarium put the water at the door and the rest of the city at a remove, which suits a short visit better than a long one.
Inland, the balance changes. The Fujisawa Ukiyo-e Museum, the Yugyō-ji Museum and the Fujisawa-shuku Exchange Center belong to the older part of the city's record, and a base among them trades sea air for a shorter walk between the collections. Seventy square kilometres is a real distance.
If you want Enoshima island and the Tamanawa History Museum in one day, pick the side you care about more and accept a journey to reach the other. Kamakura complicates the arithmetic. A stay in Fujisawa is within reach of the neighbouring city, and splitting a trip between the two is an obvious move, which makes a bed near the connection more useful than one beside any single museum in Kanagawa Prefecture.
