Tokiwa is the address most visitors want. Beds within reach of Lake Tokiwa and Tokiwa Park put the walking, the water and the Ube Tokiwa Museum on the same short axis, which is the simplest way to spend two days in the city. The trade is quiet over choice.
A lakeside base keeps evenings calm and mornings walkable, though it puts a traveller further from the everyday business of the centre. The airport helps here. An arrival on a late flight is more easily absorbed by a bed near the water than by one at the far edge of the municipality.

Indoor rooms hold the afternoon, and the Ube Tokiwa Museum or the Shōundō Museum of Art absorb the worst of it.
How do you get to Ube?
The city has its own airport. A prefectural airport sits inside the boundary of Ube, so an arrival by air lands within the same municipality as Lake Tokiwa, Tokiwa Park and the museums rather than an hour away. Ground travel covers the rest of Yamaguchi Prefecture.
Anything on the far side of so broad a municipality is a road journey in itself, because the airport sets a traveller down in Ube and not at the gate of the Sōrin-ji Temple Garden.
