Rooms here put you beside the Eye Filmmuseum and within a few minutes' sailing of the old city and its sights.
Beds stay thinner on this bank. Travellers set on the canal belt should look to central Amsterdam instead, but for a calm base with a fast link across the IJ, Noord earns the crossing.

What are the main landmarks in Amsterdam-Noord?
Inside Noord itself, the standout sight is the Eye Filmmuseum, whose pale angular form sits right on the north bank of the IJ. The rest of Amsterdam's marquee landmarks lie across the water. A free ferry drops you in Amsterdam-Centrum, where the Anne Frank House, the Nieuwe Kerk and the old Oude Kerk cluster in the historic core.
Closer to the piers, the NEMO Science Center and Het Scheepvaartmuseum rise from the Oosterdok. From Noord you look straight across.
What is the history of Amsterdam-Noord?
For most of Amsterdam's history, the IJ was a working harbour, and the land beyond it stayed apart from the city that grew around the Oude Kerk. Noord took shape on that far shore, reached by boat rather than bridge. Its northern fields run up against Oostzaan, Landsmeer and Waterland, older settlements of North Holland that were never swallowed by the city.
To the east it meets the Markermeer. The water has always set Noord slightly apart, and the ferries still carry that history across the IJ.
Where is Amsterdam-Noord?
The borough occupies the whole north bank of the IJ, directly opposite the centre of Amsterdam. To the north its land runs up to the separate municipalities of Zaanstad, Oostzaan, Landsmeer and Waterland, which mark the outer edge of the city. The Markermeer forms the eastern boundary.
South of there, the ferry piers on the IJ connect Noord to Amsterdam-Centrum.
