It is a residential corner of Lørenskog. Kjenn sits in the central part of Akershus between the neighbourhoods of Skårer and Fjellhamar, close to the lake Langvannet, a settled suburb of homes and schools rather than a sightseeing town. Visitors who come this way are usually drawn by SNØ, the large indoor winter-sports centre near Lørenskog, or by the sports halls and parish churches of the district.

It is part of the built-up belt east of the capital, deep in the lowlands of Østlandet.

SNØ is the headline. The big indoor winter-sports centre near Lørenskog lets people ski under cover through the year, and the district adds its own sports halls at Lørenskoghallen for handball and indoor games. Churches mark the older parishes.

Lørenskog kirke and the protected Skårer kirke stand among the suburban streets, the heritage churches of the municipality, while Jerikobakken offers a small ski slope on the wooded edge. The lake Langvannet anchors the green heart of the area.

Kjenn began as farmland. The low ground between Skårer and the lake Langvannet held scattered homesteads in the central part of Akershus long before any suburb grew here, and the parish life of the district turned on churches such as Skårer kirke and Lørenskog kirke that served the farms around them. Then the city reached east.

As the capital region spread through the twentieth century, the farms gave way to housing, schools, and the steady suburban growth of Lørenskog, and Kjenn became one of the residential pockets that filled the lowland belt of Østlandet. The lake stayed at its centre. Langvannet kept its place as the green heart of the growing municipality, ringed by the homes and sports grounds that replaced the fields, and the building of the SNØ winter-sports centre near Lørenskog marked the district's turn toward indoor sport and leisure.

Through that growth the old parish churches endured. They remain the oldest landmarks of a place that grew from farm to suburb within living memory, set firmly in the built-up east of Akershus.

Kjenn lies inland. The village sits in the low, gently rolling country of the central part of Akershus, between the neighbourhoods of Skårer and Fjellhamar, with the lake Langvannet close at hand and wooded ridges rising beyond the houses in south-eastern Norway (Østlandet). It has no coast.

Kjenn has the cool inland weather of Østlandet. Winters are cold and snowy, with the lake Langvannet freezing over and frost settling across the lowlands of central Akershus, while summers turn mild and green under a long northern daylight that keeps the suburb bright late into the evening. Snow lingers through the cold months.

The inland setting brings firmer seasons than the coast, which is part of why the SNØ centre keeps skiing going under cover even when the outdoor snow is gone.

The road brings most people in. Kjenn sits in the built-up belt east of the capital, reached by the main roads and motorway that run through Lørenskog and the central part of Akershus toward the city. Buses serve the village and link it to the rail stations of the district, with services passing near Skårer and the SNØ centre.

Trains call nearby rather than here. The closest stations lie a short ride away in Lørenskog, so visitors usually finish the trip by bus or car along the suburban roads.
