Neve Yaakov is an Israeli settlement in East Jerusalem, north of Pisgat Ze'ev and south of the Palestinian locality of al-Ram.
About Neve Yaakov

Where to stay in Neve Yaakov
Not every neighbourhood fits every trip — here's what each one is good for.
Every service in Neve Yaakov comes from the Jerusalem Municipality, which counts the settlement a neighbourhood of the city, and a neighbourhood of that sort is built for living in rather than for staying in. Pisgat Ze'ev adjoins on the south. The locality of al-Ram sits north of it, outside the ring and on the West Bank side of the line, and neither neighbour keeps the kind of hotel row that East Jerusalem holds closer to its centre.
If the Ring Settlements of East Jerusalem are your reason for coming, Neve Yaakov puts you among them; otherwise the older streets of East Jerusalem are the practical base.
About Neve Yaakov
What are the main landmarks in Neve Yaakov?
Neve Yaakov's best-known address is military. The Central Command of the Israeli military directs the West Bank, Jerusalem, the Sharon, Gush Dan and the Shephelah from this quarter, which puts a national headquarters inside a neighbourhood otherwise given over to apartment blocks. Pisgat Ze'ev adjoins it south, al-Ram north.
Neve Yaakov counts among the Ring Settlements of East Jerusalem, and the ring itself, rather than any single building standing in it, is what a visitor sees from the road.
What is the history of Neve Yaakov?
Neve Yaakov was established in 1924, during the period of the British Mandate. The 1948 Arab-Israeli War emptied it. Israel captured the area in the Six-Day War and a new neighbourhood went up nearby, and it was from that point that international opposition to the place's legitimacy began.
The international community holds Israeli settlements in East Jerusalem to be illegal under international law; the Israeli government disputes that reading and defines Neve Yaakov as a neighbourhood within the jurisdiction of the Jerusalem Municipality, which provides all services.
Where is Neve Yaakov?
Neve Yaakov occupies the northern edge of East Jerusalem, with Pisgat Ze'ev below it and the Palestinian locality of al-Ram beyond.
