What is the history of Chinatown?
Chinatown grew out of the planned expansion of Novi Beograd, laid across the flats west of old Belgrade. The blocks came first. As the new municipality filled with apartment towers and civic halls like Hala sportova, a trading quarter took shape among them and drew the traders who gave the district its name.
Later years brought churches to the grid, among them the Church of St. Basil of Ostrog and the Црква Светог апостола Томе, marking the maturing of what had begun as bare building plots.
