Ozersk begins in 1945. The town was built to serve the химкомбинат «Маяк», and it carried the official name Челябинск-65 through the period when it was administered as a closed city. Здание, где находилось управление химкомбината «Маяк» records where the works was run from. The Заводоуправление химкомбината «Маяк» and the Центральная заводская лаборатория followed the same programme, and the Гостиница «Министерская» in the same list points to the official visits the plant drew.
Nothing here predates the works. Civic building followed the plant. Ансамбль площади Ленина and Ансамбль площади Курчатова gave the town two formal squares, the Дворец культуры химкомбината «Маяк» gave it a hall, and the Дворец пионеров gave its children somewhere of their own.
