The works square is the anchor. Ансамбль заводской площади gathers the Zlatoust Arsenal, the Ограда с воротами and the Чугунная литая решетка into one ensemble, and a bed on that side puts the industrial heart of the city within a few streets. Older houses belong to it. Особняк купеческий, the Дом городского общества and the Здание благородного собрания are the merchant and civic addresses of that quarter. Башня-колокольня Иоанна Златоуста gives the city its marker. A stay on that side trades the factory frontages for the tower, Kinoteatr Kolisei and the Здание дворца культуры машиностроителей, which is the machine-builders' own culture palace. Мемориал Славы belongs to the same set.
If you are here for the metallurgy rather than the skyline, take the streets near the Лаборатория Аносова and the Statue of Metallurgist Anosov instead. The Ay River runs through the whole thing. Rooms out along it sit away from the works quarter, with the Госпиталь горнозаводский and the Училище Уреньгинское among the older buildings that survive out there. Chelyabinsk lies a hundred and sixty kilometres east.

What is the history of Zlatoust?
Zlatoust starts in 1754. The mining works came first, and the Контора Златоустовского горного округа and the Дом начальника Горного округа are what an administrative district built for itself when metal was the reason for the place. The Ay River runs past it.
Arms followed the iron: Zlatoust Arsenal and the Фабрика оружейная put weapons work at the centre of the town's output, and the Главный корпус and the Корпус survive from that industrial fabric. Anosov gave the works its name in metallurgy, and the Лаборатория Аносова and the Statue of Metallurgist Anosov both remain. Civic building came with the money. Особняк купеческий, the Дом городского общества, the Здание благородного собрания and the Городская усадьба «Немецкая» belong to a merchant and official class that grew alongside the works, and the Госпиталь горнозаводский and Училище Уреньгинское point to what it paid for. Башня-колокольня Иоанна Златоуста marks the religious side of the same record.
The Soviet decades left their own layer: Здание дворца культуры машиностроителей for the machine-builders, Памятник юным борцам за власть советов, Мемориал Славы and two Братская могила entries that record deaths in the fighting of that period. Kinoteatr Kolisei belongs to the same century of building.
