The right area depends on your trip — here's what each neighbourhood is best for.
The merchant frontage is the obvious base. Yaushev Passage and the Trade Arcades give the centre its shopping grain, and the Latif Yaushev House and the Mullagali Yaushev House stand nearby as the residential half of the same fortune. Lenin Street runs through it.
Numbers 69 and 70 there are on the town's building record, as is Klimov Street 12, so a room on this side puts those addresses out of the door. The mosques and the cathedrals sit close together. Zeinulla Rasulev mosque and Gataulla Mulla mosque belong to the same compact centre as Uisky Trinity Cathedral, Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and the Transfiguration church, which is why a central stay reaches all of them on foot.
The Water Tower marks the skyline. If you want the museums and monuments rather than the shopping frontage, base yourself near the Troitsk museum of local lore, with the Klyatva monument and the Tomin monument in the same short circuit. The Uy River runs through it.
Rooms near the water trade the commercial frontage for a quieter street and a short walk back in, and the border with Kazakhstan is never far from any part of the town. Chelyabinsk is the fallback. It lies a hundred and ten kilometres north, which is a long way to travel for a bed but the obvious answer if the town's own rooms are taken.

What is the history of Troitsk?
Troitsk dates from 1743. The town stands on the east-flowing Uy River, a branch of the Tobol River, at the border with Kazakhstan, and trade rather than industry accounts for most of what was built in the first two centuries. Relief plays no part: the southern Ural Mountains lie a hundred and seventy-five kilometres to the west.
The Trade Arcades say it plainly. Yaushev Passage and the two Yaushev houses belong to a merchant family whose name attaches to more of the centre than anyone else's, and the Troitsk museum of local lore keeps that account. The Water Tower stands among them.

The border does the framing here. Troitsk stands on the east-flowing Uy River, a branch of the Tobol River, a hundred and ten kilometres south of Chelyabinsk and hard against the boundary with Kazakhstan. The southern Ural Mountains lie a hundred and seventy-five kilometres west.
The Uy River leaves it heading east.
What is the climate of Troitsk?
Open country decides it. The southern Ural Mountains are too far west to shelter Troitsk, and the temperate band this far inland gives a hard cold season, a short hot one, and wind that crosses the border country without meeting much. The Uy River ices over.
Chelyabinsk Oblast has no coast to moderate any of it.
How do you get to Troitsk?
Chelyabinsk is the way in for most arrivals. It lies a hundred and ten kilometres north, and that road is the practical approach because the border with Kazakhstan closes the country immediately on the other side of the town. Lenin Street carries it through the centre.
Everything else arrives from Chelyabinsk Oblast rather than from across the frontier.
