Two places of worship stand out. The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Tou Mu Kung Temple both stand inside the planning area, giving Hougang a Catholic parish and a Chinese temple within the same stretch of estate. Housing fills most of the rest.

Sengkang took the ground to the north and Toa Payoh the ground to the southwest, leaving Hougang as the block between them in the North-East Region.
