Not every neighbourhood fits every trip — here's what each one is good for.
The Planes of Fame Air Museum decides it for most visitors. Beds on that side of Chino put you within a short drive of both aviation collections, the Yanks Air Museum included, and they suit anyone whose visit is built around those two rather than anything else in San Bernardino County. That is the narrow case.
Chino is a working city rather than a resort, so rooms cluster along the through roads instead of any single quarter. Prado Regional Park is the other anchor. Rooms taken with the park in mind trade walkable evenings for open ground, parking, and a short run out to the county lines that box Chino in on two sides.
Orange County lies to the south. Los Angeles County sits to the west, which makes a bed here workable for anyone splitting days across all three counties. Pomona gives a third option. The Auto Club Raceway at Pomona, the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum and the American Museum of Ceramic Art all sit within the same short belt of road, and a room over there suits a trip weighted towards racing or galleries.

What is the history of Chino?
The charter dates from 1910. Chino belongs to the western end of San Bernardino County, with the Los Angeles County line on one side and Orange County on the other, and the city took its municipal shape between those two lines. Older fabric survives in scattered pieces.
The Ygnacio Palomares Adobe is the one adobe among them, and the Moyse Building stands for the commercial architecture that came after. Houses make up much of the record. The Helen Goodwin Renwick House and the Peter Drucker House are each preserved under the name of a person attached to them, which is how domestic history gets kept in this part of San Bernardino County.
Aviation arrived later. The Planes of Fame Air Museum and the Yanks Air Museum both assembled their collections in Chino, and the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum records the motorsport that took hold alongside the Auto Club Raceway at Pomona. Art institutions came last.
The American Museum of Ceramic Art, the Benton Museum of Art, the Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery and the Chaffey Community Museum of Art all lie within reach of Chino, and the Inland Empire Museum of Art carries the region's own name.

The city covers about 77 square kilometres. Chino occupies the western end of San Bernardino County, and both the Los Angeles County line to the west and the Orange County line to the south fall close enough to cross on a short drive. Prado Regional Park holds the open ground.
The setting is Southern California, and Chino's share of it takes in the two air museums, Prado Regional Park and the roads that link them to Pomona.
What is the climate of Chino?
A subtropical belt dictates the calendar. Chino lies within it, on the western edge of San Bernardino County, so the year divides into a long warm half and a cooler one rather than four sharply marked seasons. Southern California supplies the rest.
Days at Prado Regional Park run warmest through the middle of the year, since the city stands north of the equator and takes its high sun in the same months as the rest of California.
How do you get to Chino?
Nearly everyone arrives in Chino by car. Chino sits inside the Southern California road network with Los Angeles County to the west and Orange County to the south, which puts the city within an easy drive of both without depending on either. Pomona lies on the same run.
The Auto Club Raceway at Pomona, the American Museum of Ceramic Art and the Benton Museum of Art can all be reached from a Chino base in one outing, and the Planes of Fame Air Museum needs no travel at all.
