Bayard keeps its own streets residential, so the nearest rooms sit a mile or so west along Old Saint Augustine Road, around Flagler Center. State Road 9B runs the eastern edge. It meets Philips Highway a few miles south, which leaves a room on this stretch sitting between Downtown Jacksonville and St. Augustine rather than close to either.
You will want this end of Duval County if the run south on U.S. Route 1 matters more to you than a walkable street.

What are the main landmarks in Bayard?
Bayard's landmark stood at 12525 Philips Highway, a three-story frame building that Juliette Wing opened in 1899 as a general store with twelve hotel rooms above it. The store closed in 1947. Jacksonville's Historic Preservation Commission refused the building landmark status in December 2001, finding that it met only three of the city's seven criteria, and it came down in 2005.

What is the history of Bayard?
Bayard was platted in 1884 as a midpoint on the road between Jacksonville and St. Augustine, and the pine sawmills and turpentine distilleries around it gave the depot its trade. Soldiers came first. A company of the Special Battalion of Florida Volunteers mustered in at Bayard in September 1856, during the Third Seminole War.
Whose name the settlement carries is still argued. One account credits the Delaware senator Thomas F. Bayard, with Henry M. Flagler of the Florida East Coast Railway said to have chosen it, while a version recorded locally in 1939 points instead to a son of Duncan Lamont Clinch.
